Microsoft announced its first Hybrid Surface computer in October 2012. The main intention of Microsoft was to give users a new portable experience with which they can convert their Surface book into a laptop or use it as a tablet without the need of having another tablet or laptop in both cases.

Like every year since 2012, Microsoft is looking forward to the release of its new Surface book called the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 featuring same hybrid design as before. Though this news is not confirmed yet but here is what we know about the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 which includes rumors, specs, price and release date.

For the people who don’t know about Microsoft Surface series, this is basically a two in one design with Windows 10 operating system. It has the ability to become a tablet or a laptop with its detachable keyboard style. The Surface series also comes with a stylus for tasks requiring precision on screen.

The Microsoft Surface Pro is basically an advanced version of normal Surface series having a much more high-end hardware.

Last years, Microsoft Surface Pro 4 was a hit because of its design, portability, and its uniqueness but people had battery related issues that the Surface Pro 4 doesn’t last long while Microsoft stated that it would last up to 9 hours. Other than this issue the Surface Pro 4 was a success and people enjoyed it.

Now coming to the main topic the Surface Pro 5 here are the rumors which we know about the upcoming Surface Pro 5

Microsoft Surface Pro 5 Specification

Microsoft Surface Pro 4 featured Intel’s 6th Gen Skylake series processors. The Microsoft Surface Pro 5 is most probably not coming with the successor of Skylake series the 7th Gen Kaby Lake Processors. That’s because the release of 7th Gen Kaby Lake processors has been delayed. However, it will release in the second half of 2017. This means that the 5th Gen Surface Pro will be powered by 6th Gen Skylake Processors but somehow it is possible that it may come with 7th Gen Kaby Lake Processors.

RAM and Storage

The previous Surface Pro 4 had 256GB of storage and 16GB of RAM in the topped up, model. So it is very likely that the Surface Pro 5 will have the same configuration having 256GB of storage and 16GB of RAM.

Battery Timings

Microsoft Surface Pro 4 had issues related to battery timing. Many owners reported that it is draining the battery very fast. Microsoft did release a software related fix for it. But future buyers are not expecting Microsoft to come up with the same issue in the Microsoft Surface Pro 5.

Operating System

Microsoft is about to release a second version of Windows 10 which will be called Windows 10 Redstone 2 somewhere in 2017 which means that the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 might come with Windows 10 Redstone 2 out of the box.

USB Type C

Micro-USB ports are being replaced with USB Type-C connectors in almost every device because of its advantages. Like fast charging, faster data transfer rate etc. Most of the latest smartphones and laptops are coming with a USB Type-C port and it is about to become a standard. So it looks like Microsoft Surface Pro 5 might feature USB Type-C ports.

Microsoft Surface Pro 4 had a 12.3-inch display. The rumors point that this time Microsoft might replace the smaller screen size with a larger 13.3-inch panel. This larger panel might support 4K Resolution in the Microsoft Surface Pro 5.

The price of Microsoft Surface Pro 5 might not be different than the Surface Pro 4. The base model of Surface Pro 4 costs like $999 whereas the top of the line model costs $1799. So the expected price of Microsoft Surface Pro 5 could be in between $899 and $1599 respectively.

The release date of Microsoft Surface Pro 5 still remains a mystery. But it looks like Microsoft will announce its release in January 2017 or in the second half of 2017.
